Laboratory for detection of irradiated food was established in 2018 and it is accredited by the Institute for Accreditation according to MKC EN ISO / IEC 17025 : 2018 standard, with fixed scope of two standard testing methods: МКС EN 13751:2011 – Foodstuffs – Detection of irradiated food using photostimulated luminescence and МКС EN and
1788:2011 – Foodstuffs – Thermoluminescence detection of irradiated food from which silicate minerals can be isolated.
In addition to the teaching activities of the first, second and third cycle studies, where graduation and master theses are done, as well as research within several doctoral theses, the Laboratory primarily achieves remarkable scientific, research and application activities in the field of testing and characterization of irradiated materials. The Laboratory performs the detection of irradiated food as part of the Monitoring program for food safety given by the Food and Veterinary Agency.
The Laboratory is equipped for testing and characterization of irradiated materials by optically stimulated luminescence and thermoluminescence methods, including SUREC PPSL irradiated food screening system, Riso TL / OSL DA-20 with a 90Sr / 90Y beta source, and additional equipment including Elmasonic S 50 R ultrasonic bath, E8 LW Scientific centrifuge and TESTO 174H instrument for measurement of ambient temperature and humidity.
